National Seating & Mobility Boosts Performance, Ensures Data Protection and High Availability (HA) with StorTrends High Performance Storage

8/31/2015

  • Custom Mobility, Rehabilitation, and Adaptive Seating Systems Provider deploys StorTrends SANs at Primary and Remote Datacenters to ensure Fast and Accurate Backup and Disaster Recovery (DR)

NORCROSS, GA: StorTrends®, the data storage division of American Megatrends, Inc. (AMI) and an industry leader in all-flash arrays (AFA), hybrid storage, and spinning disk solutions, announced today that National Seating & Mobility (NSM), headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, has deployed StorTrends high performance storage in order to boost storage performance and ensure data protection, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR).

Prior to implementing the StorTrends’ solution, NSM - which specializes in custom mobility, rehabilitation, and adaptive seating systems for those with physical challenges and disabilities - had experienced frequent disk failures that caused backup windows to run much longer than desired. This was due in part to the tremendous growth of the organization over the past 30 years from five locations to a national network of over 1,000 professional Assistive Technology Providers serving clients, therapists, and physicians across the United States. Of necessity, the IT environment expanded as well to include 75 TB of data, supported by 20 HP and Dell physical servers, 50 Hyper-V™ virtual servers, Dell and Cisco network switches, two Microsoft® SQL Server® databases, 100 MySQL® databases, a custom built Adobe® ColdFusion® based in-house CRM, and a 2010 Microsoft Exchange™ server with 1,000 users all running in a Windows® 7 and 8.1 environment.

With this data growth, NSM knew that its previous solution - a homegrown storage area network (SAN) consisting of multiple older disks for backup - would not suffice long-term. After researching various options, the IT department selected StorTrends high performance storage. StorTrends’ compatibility with Veeam® software for onsite production data backup combined with high-speed replication capabilities to an offsite disaster recovery (DR) site were among its many selling points. This NSM took advantage of immediately by deploying a dual controller StorTrends SAN at its primary datacenter in Chattanooga with a mirror StorTrends SAN in Nashville to ensure fast and accurate backup and DR.

“We immediately felt the impact of having a solid backup system in place,” said Nathan Buck, NSM’s Network Manager. “StorTrends has definitely been a ‘set it and forget it’ kind of device. In the past we had disks that would frequently fail. StorTrends provides consistent performance.”

Buck cited additional benefits to using the new solution as well, including the fact that the StorTrends’ device is multi-purpose. While NSM is currently using it for a backup to disk solution, the organization could use it in the future as traditional SAN, or to run it alongside its existing backup system. Buck also credited StorAid™, the StorTrends technical support division, as part of the success of the solution. “The service and support experience has gone extremely well,” explained Buck. “Any time questions arise, they are there to answer our questions quickly and accurately.”

“The StorTrends solutions are a perfect fit for the tiered data management structures in today’s enterprises, as NSM quickly discovered,” said Justin Bagby, Director of StorTrends. “These solutions offer management ease, with the high performance and reliability required to serve mission critical data. Moreover, StorTrends is the right solution for the future, giving National Seating & Mobility the flexibility to grow their storage environment how and when they need to – whether its all-flash, hybrid flash or spinning disk, based on their own application and budgetary requirements.”

FSG Bank Increases IOPS Speed Five Times over Previous Backup System with StorTrends High Performance Storage

8/25/2015

  • Leading Banking and Financial Institution Switches to StorTrends for Ease of Management, Data Protection and Asset Optimization

NORCROSS, GA: StorTrends®, the data storage division of American Megatrends, Inc. (AMI) and an industry leader in all-flash arrays (AFA), hybrid storage, and spinning disk solutions, today announced that its customer FSG Bank, headquartered in Chattanooga, Tennessee, reported a five time increase in IOPS speed in comparison to its previous backup system after switching to StorTrends high performance storage.

Prior to implementing the StorTrends solution, FSG Bank — whose approximately 300 employees serve the banking and financial needs of communities in Tennessee and northern Georgia — struggled to efficiently maintain its existing storage resources. The bank had recently realized a substantial increase in profits, with nearly $50 million in loan growth and over $1 million of improvement in non-interest expense. For the IT department, charged with supporting the bank’s internal IT requirements as well as maintaining all customer support systems, this success created even greater data storage challenges.

With a complex IT environment consisting of 70 servers, the majority of which are virtual, Juniper network switches, a myriad of databases, a Zimbra mail server and various banking software, FSG Bank needed to rely on outsourcing the core of its work. The operation was just getting by on a 20 TB storage area network (SAN), with a secondary unit in a disaster recovery (DR) site for failover.

Needing more flexibility and control over the environment, the IT department compared various systems and chose StorTrends based on the product’s capability, price, and support plan. In terms of capability, the data-tiering provided by StorTrends allowed the organization to implement three tiers of storage and avoid overburdening its storage resources. Tier I was used to support the bank’s mission-critical data (accessed hourly and daily), Tier II was employed to manage frequently-accessed but non-priority data, and Tier III was used to serve its backup and archiving processes.

“The primary production datastore and most of the VMs were strategically migrated over to the StorTrends solution as quickly as possible and the results were immediate,” said Kevin Turner, Systems Administrator, FSG Bank. “The speed is definitely impressive. Our IOPS are almost five times faster than the previous solution.”

Turner also highlighted that the outstanding technical support has been key to the bank’s high satisfaction with StorTrends. “With StorTrends, the support agents know the product inside-out,” said Turner. “The representatives go above and beyond the call of duty and show a total commitment to getting things fixed. We’ve seen firsthand that an excellent product, at an affordable cost, with great technical support is just the StorTrends way of doing business.”

“For organizations like FSG Bank, StorTrends high-performance storage delivers the exceptional performance and functionality necessary to optimize resources, boost productivity, and ensure data protection,” said Justin Bagby, Director of the StorTrends division of American Megatrends. “What’s more, StorTrends provides the flexibility to grow any organization’s storage environment as needed, with the high capacity that will meet business and budget requirements well into the future - whether those call for all-flash, hybrid flash, or spinning disk.”

StorTrends Granted Three U.S. Patents That Set New Performance Standard for All-Flash Storage

8/17/2015

NORCROSS, GAStorTrends®, the data storage division of American Megatrends, Inc. (AMI) and an industry leader in all-flash arrays (AFA), hybrid storage, and spinning disk solutions, today announced that it has been granted three U.S. Patents as the company continues to establish a new era of performance storage with proven value. The patents set the highest standard to date for how companies can meet the requirements of the most performance-intensive applications, at the most affordable price-point in the industry.

AMI was granted U.S. Patent No. 8,954,339 on Data Deduplication for Information Storage Systems, which was filed on April 18, 2012. This awarded patent covers the means to have deduplication run at optimal and efficient space-saving levels. Specifically, it optimizes the amount of system RAM space used in the system to reduce (or dedupe) terabytes worth of data without affecting performance. In terms of customer benefit, this greatly reduces the amount of SSD capacity that a company is required to purchase within the SAN while also delivering the lowest latency in the industry to significantly increase value and response times within an IT environment.

“Deduplication and compression have become critical features for all-flash storage arrays,” said Sukha Ghosh, Vice President of Engineering for the StorTrends Data Storage Division. “Without deduplication and compression, the SSDs are too small from a capacity perspective, and they are still too expensive to scale out for many customers. StorTrends has worked extremely hard to implement the industry’s best deduplication and compression engine within StorTrends’ All-Flash Array family.”

AMI was granted the second patent — U.S. Patent No. 8,812,811 on Data Migration between Multiple Tiers in a Storage System — which was filed on August 10, 2012. This awarded patent covers the means that StorTrends utilizes to efficiently analyze blocks of data and move the individual blocks among different tiers of storage. Customers lower their costs significantly from StorTrends taking the highly accessed blocks of data in the environment and putting only those blocks into the expensive drive SSD tiers, while the less frequently accessed blocks occupy only the lower, less expensive tier of the storage array.

“Data tiering has been around for many years and there are several ways to migrate data between different storage tiers. The new patented process is an important advancement for both the StorTrends Hybrid Array and the StorTrends All-Flash Array. This patented process has been designed to intelligently watch and track blocks of data, and it can even predict when data blocks need to be moved into or out of the hot tier based on access patterns,” said Justin Bagby, Director of the StorTrends Data Storage Division. “This very unique and efficient algorithm can also be further fine-tuned by the customer for faster promotion and demotion of the blocks of data based on the customer’s specific data loads and data type, providing for true quality of service.”

AMI was granted the third patent—Patent No. 8,711,851 on Multi-Protocol Data Transfers — which was filed on July 18, 2008. This patent covers the means that StorTrends uses to maximize the reliability of transmission control protocol and the performance of user datagram protocol to ensure that StorTrends’ replication is the fastest in the industry. This decreases replication management and increases the possible recovery point objective (RPO) for a customer by giving more available bandwidth for the blocks that need to go to their disaster recovery (DR) location. StorTrends also incorporates periodicity, which allows the customer to set the priority bandwidth for the replication of the data and avoid bogging down the network during peak business hours. The Wide-Area Data Services (WDS) technology suite includes data deduplication, compression, encryption, and WAN optimization. This technology ensures that the primary site stays in-sync with the secondary site, allowing for increased RPO and recovery time objective.

“The ability to keep a disaster recovery or backup site in sync with the primary data infrastructure is critical,” said Bagby. “We have found that a large majority of IT environments are not in-sync and if a disaster occurs in the primary environment, the chances of the data being in-sync and on the secondary or DR site is low. AMI recognized this as a serious problem, and in response developed its industry-leading WDS replication technology suite that helps shorten the vulnerability window for StorTrends customers.”

Advanced Motors & Drives (AMD) Safeguards Continued Growth and Evolving Product Line with StorTrends High Performance

7/6/2015

  • Premier Designer and Manufacturer of Customized Motors for Battery-Powered Vehicles Replaces Tape-Based Backup with StorTrends Storage Area Network (SAN)

NORCROSS, GA: StorTrends® the world’s proven leader in all-flash arrays (AFA), hybrid storage, and spinning disk solutions, today announced that Advanced Motors and Drives (AMD), a premier designer and manufacturer of customized motors for battery-powered vehicles, has deployed a StorTrends high-performance storage area network (SAN) across its primary and remote backup datacenters to support its continued growth and evolving product line.

In addition to serving industrial, recreational and utility vehicle manufacturers, AMD is also on the cutting edge of clean “green” motor manufacturing. Staffed by a team of hundreds of designers, engineers, IT professionals and administrative staff, its upstate New York design and manufacturing facilities are supported by primary and remote datacenters. These datacenters utilize a wide range of enterprise applications, across a heterogeneous infrastructure made up of Red Hat® Linux® servers, a BlackBerry® Enterprise server, and various IBM servers. In addition, AMD relies on Windows®-compatible Samba to help support and manage its end user desktop, laptop and printer environment. Until the StorTrends SAN deployment, AMD had relied almost exclusively on tape-based backup. However, as AMD continued to grow it recognized that not only was tape backup a resource draining process, they also faced the risk that if they should experience an outage or disaster event, their information and applications would be unavailable for an unacceptable period of time - if not lost forever.

“The tape backup approach became a bottleneck, so we created a rotating schedule to backup different applications on different days. But this led to periods of time when no backups existed for some apps,” explained Tom Flood, IT Manager at Advanced Motors and Drives.

To augment, disk-based backup was also used but not moved to a safe location until the tape backup was moved. Restoration was complicated and time consuming, and consequently avoided whenever possible. As this was not a long-term tenable solution, given the company’s rapid growth and business criticality of applications and information, Flood began the search for a technologically viable solution, which would also meet its stringent budget requirements. After a careful review of available solutions, and a successfully executed performance proof of concept (POC), Flood chose and deployed a StorTrends high performance SAN across its primary and remote datacenters.

“StorTrends, with its easy and intuitive GUI, makes SAN deployment and management really simple – we had it up and running in about 15 minutes,” said Flood. “You don’t need a special degree to create volumes in StorTrends. It’s completed in just a few clicks. And, with a few more clicks, you’ve got that same volume replicated safely offsite.”

AMD now has six thin provisioned volumes, since StorTrends allows for both thin and exact provisioning, for a total capacity of over 3.5 terabytes (TB). Each StorTrends has useable 11 TB capacity, including a hot spare drive. Data is now consistently replicated every day, with the StorTrends Snap-Assisted Replication (SAR) feature. With StorTrends SAR, an original point-in-time copy of data is first replicated; after that, only changed data is captured and replicated in order to expedite the backup process, reduce performance overhead, and eliminate backup storage redundancy.

“Whereas previously backup was a tedious chore that was time intensive, expensive, and less than reliable, StorTrends has provided AMD with a high performance solution for fast and consistent data backup, at a dramatically lower cost. For instance, a directory of thousands of product drawings in PDF format now takes just a couple seconds to be fully backed up – with future backups consisting of only the changes to these files,” said Justin Bagby, Director of the StorTrends division of American Megatrends (AMI). “Moreover, StorTrends has provided AMD with the flexibility to grow its storage environment how and when it needs to, whether they require all-flash, hybrid flash or spinning disk to support their application and budgetary requirements.”

First Option Mortgage Powers its Virtualized Datacenter with StorTrends High Performance SAN Storage

6/25/2015

  • National Mortgage Firm Relies on StorTrends to Easily Manage and Support its Tiered Storage Data Stores with Compelling Value and ROI

NORCROSS, GA: StorTrends® today announced that that its high performance storage area network (SAN) storage appliances have been implemented by First Option Mortgage to affordably support and manage the three-tier storage structure of its newly virtualized datacenter. Using StorTrends, First Option Mortgage has seen dramatic value across its Tier II and Tier III data stores, making its journey to datacenter virtualization seamless and efficient.

Based in Atlanta, Georgia, First Option Mortgage has a national footprint with a growing family of more than 200 employees. With continued expansion, the mortgage firm’s IT team was experiencing the strain of its continued expansion. The company’s data center was completely physical just a few years ago, but with growth the team saw the need to virtualize. Today, First Option is almost fully virtual and has nearly 100 VMware® ESX servers serving its business applications.

This growing environment needed to better support its storage infrastructure. As a way to avoid overburdening its storage resources, the organization implemented three tiers of storage: Tier I is used to support its absolute mission-critical data which is accessed hourly and daily. Tier II storage is employed to manage frequently accessed, but non-priority data and Tier III storage is used to serve its backup and archiving processes.

When it came time for First Option to find a solution that would efficiently support its tiered data structure, they needed a system that was reliable and simple to use. It also needed to be VMware compatible and affordable. StorTrends SAN solutions became the number one choice.

The GUI of the StorTrends ManageTrends software caught the attention of Matt Berry, Vice President of IT for First Option Mortgage, “The StorTrends ManageTrends GUI is absolutely the best GUI I’ve seen. It’s ridiculously easy to use. That and StorTrends’ highly affordable pricing made it a compelling product for our Tier II and III needs.”

First Option is now using two StorTrends arrays with SATA drives to support Tier II and Tier III data, managing roughly 16 TBs of total capacity. “The StorTrends solutions at First Option have been a very good investment. The SANs do exactly as promised. For the money and ease of use, StorTrends is a real value,” added Barry.

“The StorTrends solutions are ideally suited for the tiered data management structures in today’s enterprises. They offer the high performance and reliability needed to robustly serve mission critical data, and the cost effectiveness to also deliver an exceptional ROI for Tier III applications,” said Justin Bagby, Director of the StorTrends Division at American Megatrends, Inc. (AMI). “For organizations such as First Option Mortgage, this means exceptional performance with the simplicity and management ease of a common solution.”

StorTrends Releases New High-Performance All-Flash Storage Arrays at Industry’s Lowest Price Point

3/17/2015

  • StorTrends 3600i Family Addresses the Needs of the Most Performance-Intensive Applications for Virtualized Environments, VDI and Mixed Workloads at Disruptive Pricing with Models starting at 50 Cents per Gigabyte
  • Premiering StorTrends 3600i Family of AFAs at CeBIT 2015

NORCROSS, GA: StorTrends® today announced details the release of the StorTrends 3600i family of all-flash SAN arrays that have been designed to meet the demanding needs of performance-intensive applications at half the price of any other all-flash storage provider.

Utilizing two different types of solid state drives – one designed for write performance and the other optimized for read performance – the StorTrends 3600i family of all-flash arrays delivers significantly higher performance and extended SSD endurance when compared to competitive flash arrays.

Unlike other flash array vendors, American Megatrends uniquely optimizes its all-flash arrays to suit the specific needs of each environment by using the StorTrends iDATA Analysis Tool, which accurately defines a user’s storage requirements. StorTrends iDATA can assess an organization’s entire IT environment to analyze capacity utilization, IOPS usage, reads vs. writes for volumes, network bandwidth, performance, server statistics and more to classify the amount of “write data” versus “read data” required in their environment. The free StorTrends iDATA tool allows enterprises to accurately plan their next storage investment and removes all the guesswork which could leave the applications under-provisioned or over-provisioned.

The StorTrends 3600i leverages state-of-the-art deduplication and compression, which achieves amazing capacity savings. It is delivered out-of-the-box with an all-inclusive feature set that is comprised of inline deduplication and compression, enlift caching, advanced snapshots, automated data tiering, active/active or active/passive configuration, WAN optimization for unparalleled replication speeds and SSD-based data encryption. The StorTrends 3600i series is available with Write Tier SSD capacities of 200 GB, 400 GB, 800 GB and 2 TB as well as Read Tier SSD capacities of 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB.

StorTrends customer Cross IT Services and Solutions recently deployed a StorTrends 3610i array, and is in the process of migrating the data from five spinning disk SAN/NAS units onto its new all-flash storage solution. The new StorTrends 3610i will now serve as the backbone of its cloud infrastructure, which hosts customer applications and information. “We have long been aware of the advantages of flash over spinning disk, but from a budgetary standpoint it did not previously make sense to deploy on a large scale. However, with the price of flash coming down, it made sense to explore,” said Ryan Kelly, Manager, Technical Services, Cross IT Services and Solutions. “After a careful review, we found that StorTrends offered a full-flash solution that we felt had superior features and functionality over that of other flash competitors -- at a fraction of the cost. In fact, the pricing was actually quite comparable to that of a spinning disk solution." He added, "Another significant selling point for us was that the StorTrends service organization is made up of highly experienced storage professionals, and is backed by parent company, American Megatrends - an organization that has a long lineage of quality and stability. Having that kind of company in your corner, versus many of the startup storage competitors and newcomers to the market, is huge.”

“The demands on application performance are at an all-time high,” said Arun Taneja, Founder, President and Consulting Analyst, The Taneja Group. “From high-transaction databases to virtual desktop implementations, the patience users have for traditional spinning disk speeds are wearing thin. With the high performance and enterprise-class data services offered by the StorTrends’ 3600i family of all-flash arrays, combined with their industry-low acquisition cost, IT organizations no longer need to compromise. High storage performance has never been more attainable.” Taneja concluded, “The benefits of using flash for performance improvement, especially in high-transaction databases, virtual desktop (VDI) and many other applications, are well-known by now. The only issue has been: Can I afford an all-flash configuration? With the StorTrends 3600i family the answer is: Absolutely, yes.”

“Until today, the vast majority of customers have been shy of all-flash storage primarily due to the cost. AMI has broken down this barrier by offering all-flash storage for less than $0.50 per GB. This is due to the highly efficient data deduplication, compression and enlift caching technology that is offered within the StorTrends 3600i series,” said Justin Bagby, Director of the StorTrends Division at American Megatrends. “For organizations that are considering making the move to an all-flash array, we encourage them to download the StorTrends iDATA tool and let it show you the savings and performance requirements your infrastructure needs before investing into an all-flash array. The StorTrends iDATA tool will provide you with an estimated dedupe ratio while also telling you how much active data versus cold data you have within your environment. This will allow you and your team to plan appropriately and avoid being over-or-under sold by a vendor.”

Available now, the StorTrends 3600i all-flash array has an MSRP starting at $24,999. StorTrends solutions are sold with the StorAID Support Program, which includes 24 x 7 technical phone support and next business day onsite replacement. The StorAID Plus Support program adds 4 Hour On-Site and a spare parts kit to the Standard StorAID program. For more information, please visit the StorTrends 3600i overview on the StorTrends website.

The StorTrends 3600i is being showcased this week at CeBIT 2015 in Hannover, Germany in Hall 15, Booth D66. Attendees will be able to see first-hand the new All-Flash Arrays’ unparalled speed and enterprise services. To schedule a demonstration appointment during the show, please email Winfried Prohl, Managing Director of American Megatrends International GMbH.

StorTrends Hybrid and All-Flash Storage Arrays Boost Application Performance for Virtual Server Environments

3/3/2015

  • Customers and Partners Across Range of Industries Realize Rapid Benefits and Value with StorTrends

NORCROSS, GA: StorTrends® today announced details on how customers and partners across virtually every industry, including education, energy, finance, state & local government, healthcare, manufacturing, and retail, have benefitted from the increased application performance achieved using StorTrends hybrid and all-flash storage arrays in high-demand virtual environments. Using StorTrends storage appliances, customers can achieve unprecedented performance, reliability, scalability and cost savings - especially in Virtual Server deployments.

StorTrends is among the leading hybrid and all-flash storage array providers to capitalize on this growth opportunity. With a long standing history of delivering innovative storage solutions that break price/performance barriers, StorTrends has optimized support for a complete range of virtual environments including VMware® ESXi, Microsoft® Hyper-V™, Citrix® Xen™ and Red Hat® RHEV. The result is a suite of storage arrays that will achieve dramatic enterprise performance and reliability at an extremely affordable price point.

Among the keys to StorTrends’ success is the StorTrends iDATA Tool which automatically identifies an environment’s actual storage needs and requirements before a customer makes a purchasing decision. Running quietly in the background of an existing IT environment, after seven days the StorTrends iDATA Tool will report on key metrics including capacity utilization, IOPS usage, reads versus writes for volumes, network bandwidth performance, server statistics and application information. The result is a clear and accurate picture of the storage resources needed for optimum operation - and to ensure organizations select exactly what they need eliminating the need to over-provision costly resources.

“The number one reason most storage installations fail is due to a lack of accurate information regarding the IT environment’s performance requirements,” said Justin Bagby, Director of StorTrends. “With StorTrends iDATA we eliminate the guesswork so that customers can build their storage infrastructure with the insight and knowledge that fuels their success. The StorTrends iDATA tool determines how much active data a customer has within his or her environment. This allows us to spec the approximate amount of SSD or flash for the infrastructure to be successful. This, along with the high value of our StorTrends Hybrid and All-Flash Storage Arrays, continues to deliver impressive performance results for our customers. Why guess at your data storage configuration when you can run the free StorTrends iDATA tool and know?”

“Our guidance to end-users is clear – we advise that they should strongly consider hybrid or all-flash arrays (HFA or AFA) when it comes time for a tech refresh to support business critical environments requiring high performance data capabilities. The HFA or AFA choice should be made after a careful review of internal business and IT requirements, as well as budget. And then, a vendor offering advanced enterprise capabilities together with competitive pricing, such as StorTrends, should be selected,” advised Deni Connor, Founding Analyst, SSG-NOW.

Customers and Partners Report Dramatic Benefits and Value Using StorTrends in Their Virtual Environments

StorTrends customers and partners across multiple industries continue to underscore the value they receive using its family of storage solutions in their virtual environments.

For Prevare Information Technology Services, an authority on outsourced IT and technical services, the value of StorTrends arrays has been proven in their customer implementations again and again. “As I researched potential SAN solutions, I kept coming back to StorTrends from AMI,” said Chris Haight, President of Prevare. “It had the ability to handle capacity needs, the required redundancy in their HA configuration, a very easy and intuitive GUI, certification with VMware and JBODs for future expansion. But what sealed the deal was the price – StorTrends was 25% less than a similar solution from another vendor.”

At McLeod Addictive Disease Center, StorTrends helped to achieve reliable and efficient storage for the abundance of health records stored in the health center’s 30TB virtual server environment. Today, McLeod uses its StorTrends array to run all of their virtual machines. “We originally chose StorTrends after an extensive review of the likely options – such as Dell, EMC and HP. We then met with the team and completed an exhaustive evaluation of the StorTrends’ array – the results blew us away,” said Paul Ogle, a member of the IT team at McLeod Addictive Disease Center. “In addition to StorTrends performing exactly as advertised, the knowledge and support we have received from the support team has far exceeded our expectations.”

Charlotte Radiology also relies on its StorTrends arrays to help the organization retain volumes of critical health data. Charlotte Radiology displaced a premier Tier One SAN vendor with StorTrends and has since seen improved performance and an enhanced feature set for a much more affordable price. “I cannot stress enough how good the customer service is,” said Tony Maynard, Manager of Information Technology, Charlotte Radiology. “The StorTrends team has done nothing but accommodate our needs and bend over backwards for us. Everything has performed as they described and I have never had the feeling of being over-promised or under delivered.”

National Fish & Seafood, a division of PACIFIC ANDES, also entrusts its StorTrends array to protect its Microsoft Hyper-V environment. “When we sat down with our IT services partner to review options, it became clear that StorTrends was the right choice for our business,” said Andrew Marenghi, IT Director, National Fish & Seafood. “The StorTrends array had the specific capabilities we were looking for, the integration with Hyper-V, and a price tag that was, well, much less than we anticipated. A true value.”

University of Maryland’s Department of Transportation Services (DOTS) selected StorTrends as the core of its implemented virtual infrastructure, supporting 17 VMware ESX virtual servers as well as two physical servers running several Microsoft SQL databases, DOTS-specific shared drives and directories and a host of other demanding applications. “StorTrends had literally every single feature I was looking for: tiered storage, data deduplication and archiving, innovative data replication and WAN optimization – everything,” said Tim Robinson, DOTS IT Coordinator and Systems Administrator, University of Maryland Department of Transportation Services. “StorTrends was the perfect fit for my environment. StorTrends met every one of our requirements.”

McLeod Addictive Disease Center Extends Relationship with StorTrends – Adds Additional 3500i and 3400i High Performance Storage

2/10/2015

  • StorTrends 3500i Hybrid Flash Array (HFA) and 3400i Dual Controller SAN to Ensure Optimal Electronic Medical Records (EMR) System Performance, High Availability (HA), Data Protection and Continued Seamless Scalability

NORCROSS, GA: StorTrends® today announced that the McLeod Addictive Disease Center has added a StorTrends 3500i SSD hybrid flash array (HFA) and a StorTrends 3400i dual controller storage area network (SAN) unit to its existing StorTrends deployment, currently serving as the backbone for its Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems. The added StorTrends storage will enable McLeod to achieve seamless expansion of its EMR environment, while ensuring flash-fast performance, as well as the highest levels of data availability and protection.

StorTrends was initially deployed to reinforce McLeod’s EMR system upgrade, as the company transitioned to a virtualized infrastructure. Optimized to support all of the leading virtualization platforms, StorTrends helped McLeod to achieve the dramatic enterprise performance and reliability it required, at an extremely affordable price point. When it came time to expand the environment, for McLeod the decision was simple regarding the storage that should serve as the foundation for the effort.

“We originally chose StorTrends after an extensive review of the likely options – such as Dell, EMC and HP. We then met with the StorTrends team and completed an exhaustive evaluation of the StorTrends’ array – the results blew us away,” said Paul Ogle, a member of the IT team at McLeod Addictive Disease Center. “In addition to StorTrends performing exactly as advertised, the knowledge and support we have received from the StorTrends support team has far exceeded our expectations.”

Today, McLeod continues to use the StorTrends arrays to run all of their virtual machines (VMs). Managing a large EMR environment, let alone one that sits on a virtualized infrastructure, can be a daunting task. However, with StorTrends McLeod enjoys a single point of contact for all of the virtual hosts, simplifying overall management tasks such as automatic VM migration in the event of a virtual host loss or creating new LUNs on virtual machines. And, if a question should arise, StorTrends is available 24x7 with the answer.

“I’ve worked in IT for well over 10 years and I have seldom enjoyed the quality of support I have received from StorTrends,” added Ogle.

“McLeod has moved from a single controller 2400i SAN to the 3500i as their primary storage. With this move, McLeod has increased redundancy with dual controllers, and further enhanced their DR strategy, by backing up to the 3400i SAN. Moreover, by adding the 3500i hybrid flash storage they benefit from the ultimate combination of extreme performance and optimal capacity, at a price comparable to spinning disk – helping them to realize almost immediate and significant ROI,” said Justin Bagby, Director of StorTrends. “However for me, the real news here is that there is absolutely no better seal of approval that can be achieved, then that of a satisfied customer that returns for more.”

Customer Quote

The StorTrends ManageTrends GUI is absolutely the best GUI I've seen. It's ridiculously easy to use. That and StorTrends highly affordable pricing made it a compelling product for our Tier II and III needs. The StorTrends solutions at First Option have been a very good investment. The SANs do exactly as promised. For the money and ease of use, StorTrends is a real value.
