7/10/2015

  • StorTrends 3600i All-Flash Array Recognized for High Performance All-Flash Storage at the Most Affordable Price Point in the Industry

NORCROSS, GAStorTrends®, the data storage division of American Megatrends, Inc. (AMI) and an industry leader in all-flash arrays (AFA), hybrid storage, and spinning disk solutions, today announced that its StorTrends 3600i all-flash array (AFA) has received a Computer Technology Review Most Valuable Product (MVP) 2015 Award. Rigorously reviewed by the esteemed Computer Technology Review (CTR) editorial team across criteria that included product innovation, functionality and affordability, the StorTrends 3600i all-flash array stood out for its ability to unfailingly meet the requirements of the most performance-intensive applications, at the most affordable price-point in the industry.

Additionally, unlike any other flash storage vendor, StorTrends optimizes its all-flash arrays to suit the specific requirements of each environment via its patented StorTrends iDATA tool and StorTrends Dedupe tool. The StorTrends iDATA tool assesses each user’s unique storage requirements across such areas as performance, capacity utilization, IOPS, read vs. writes, network bandwidth, server statistics, etc. The StorTrends Dedupe tool runs on an existing database and will calculate the amount of data that can be deduped and compressed within the customers environment.

“After a careful review, we have identified a select group of innovative technology solutions that represent the standout leaders in their respective categories – solutions which we think should be at the top of every IT professional’s evaluation shortlist,” said Kim Kay, Associate Publisher & Editor-in-Chief, WestWorldWide, LLC, publishers of Computer Technology Review and IT Security Journal. “We congratulate StorTrends as a 2015 CTR MVP Award winner.”

"As CTR states in its StorTrends 3600i MVP Award description, ‘Until the StorTrends 3600i, the vast majority of customers have been shy of all-flash storage primarily due to cost’,” said Justin Bagby, Director of the StorTrends division of American Megatrends. “However, as the MVP Award narrative continues to explain, based on the StorTrends 3600i’s pioneering features and functionality, its ability to meet the highest performance requirements, and its highly affordable price -- all backed by a service organization that is second to none, we indisputably secured this year’s MVP Award.” He continued, “We are indeed honored for this notable and highly coveted acknowledgment.”

Advanced Motors & Drives (AMD) Safeguards Continued Growth and Evolving Product Line with StorTrends High Performance

7/6/2015

  • Premier Designer and Manufacturer of Customized Motors for Battery-Powered Vehicles Replaces Tape-Based Backup with StorTrends Storage Area Network (SAN)

NORCROSS, GA: StorTrends® the world’s proven leader in all-flash arrays (AFA), hybrid storage, and spinning disk solutions, today announced that Advanced Motors and Drives (AMD), a premier designer and manufacturer of customized motors for battery-powered vehicles, has deployed a StorTrends high-performance storage area network (SAN) across its primary and remote backup datacenters to support its continued growth and evolving product line.

In addition to serving industrial, recreational and utility vehicle manufacturers, AMD is also on the cutting edge of clean “green” motor manufacturing. Staffed by a team of hundreds of designers, engineers, IT professionals and administrative staff, its upstate New York design and manufacturing facilities are supported by primary and remote datacenters. These datacenters utilize a wide range of enterprise applications, across a heterogeneous infrastructure made up of Red Hat® Linux® servers, a BlackBerry® Enterprise server, and various IBM servers. In addition, AMD relies on Windows®-compatible Samba to help support and manage its end user desktop, laptop and printer environment. Until the StorTrends SAN deployment, AMD had relied almost exclusively on tape-based backup. However, as AMD continued to grow it recognized that not only was tape backup a resource draining process, they also faced the risk that if they should experience an outage or disaster event, their information and applications would be unavailable for an unacceptable period of time - if not lost forever.

“The tape backup approach became a bottleneck, so we created a rotating schedule to backup different applications on different days. But this led to periods of time when no backups existed for some apps,” explained Tom Flood, IT Manager at Advanced Motors and Drives.

To augment, disk-based backup was also used but not moved to a safe location until the tape backup was moved. Restoration was complicated and time consuming, and consequently avoided whenever possible. As this was not a long-term tenable solution, given the company’s rapid growth and business criticality of applications and information, Flood began the search for a technologically viable solution, which would also meet its stringent budget requirements. After a careful review of available solutions, and a successfully executed performance proof of concept (POC), Flood chose and deployed a StorTrends high performance SAN across its primary and remote datacenters.

“StorTrends, with its easy and intuitive GUI, makes SAN deployment and management really simple – we had it up and running in about 15 minutes,” said Flood. “You don’t need a special degree to create volumes in StorTrends. It’s completed in just a few clicks. And, with a few more clicks, you’ve got that same volume replicated safely offsite.”

AMD now has six thin provisioned volumes, since StorTrends allows for both thin and exact provisioning, for a total capacity of over 3.5 terabytes (TB). Each StorTrends has useable 11 TB capacity, including a hot spare drive. Data is now consistently replicated every day, with the StorTrends Snap-Assisted Replication (SAR) feature. With StorTrends SAR, an original point-in-time copy of data is first replicated; after that, only changed data is captured and replicated in order to expedite the backup process, reduce performance overhead, and eliminate backup storage redundancy.

“Whereas previously backup was a tedious chore that was time intensive, expensive, and less than reliable, StorTrends has provided AMD with a high performance solution for fast and consistent data backup, at a dramatically lower cost. For instance, a directory of thousands of product drawings in PDF format now takes just a couple seconds to be fully backed up – with future backups consisting of only the changes to these files,” said Justin Bagby, Director of the StorTrends division of American Megatrends (AMI). “Moreover, StorTrends has provided AMD with the flexibility to grow its storage environment how and when it needs to, whether they require all-flash, hybrid flash or spinning disk to support their application and budgetary requirements.”

First Option Mortgage Powers its Virtualized Datacenter with StorTrends High Performance SAN Storage

6/25/2015

  • National Mortgage Firm Relies on StorTrends to Easily Manage and Support its Tiered Storage Data Stores with Compelling Value and ROI

NORCROSS, GA: StorTrends® today announced that that its high performance storage area network (SAN) storage appliances have been implemented by First Option Mortgage to affordably support and manage the three-tier storage structure of its newly virtualized datacenter. Using StorTrends, First Option Mortgage has seen dramatic value across its Tier II and Tier III data stores, making its journey to datacenter virtualization seamless and efficient.

Based in Atlanta, Georgia, First Option Mortgage has a national footprint with a growing family of more than 200 employees. With continued expansion, the mortgage firm’s IT team was experiencing the strain of its continued expansion. The company’s data center was completely physical just a few years ago, but with growth the team saw the need to virtualize. Today, First Option is almost fully virtual and has nearly 100 VMware® ESX servers serving its business applications.

This growing environment needed to better support its storage infrastructure. As a way to avoid overburdening its storage resources, the organization implemented three tiers of storage: Tier I is used to support its absolute mission-critical data which is accessed hourly and daily. Tier II storage is employed to manage frequently accessed, but non-priority data and Tier III storage is used to serve its backup and archiving processes.

When it came time for First Option to find a solution that would efficiently support its tiered data structure, they needed a system that was reliable and simple to use. It also needed to be VMware compatible and affordable. StorTrends SAN solutions became the number one choice.

The GUI of the StorTrends ManageTrends software caught the attention of Matt Berry, Vice President of IT for First Option Mortgage, “The StorTrends ManageTrends GUI is absolutely the best GUI I’ve seen. It’s ridiculously easy to use. That and StorTrends’ highly affordable pricing made it a compelling product for our Tier II and III needs.”

First Option is now using two StorTrends arrays with SATA drives to support Tier II and Tier III data, managing roughly 16 TBs of total capacity. “The StorTrends solutions at First Option have been a very good investment. The SANs do exactly as promised. For the money and ease of use, StorTrends is a real value,” added Barry.

“The StorTrends solutions are ideally suited for the tiered data management structures in today’s enterprises. They offer the high performance and reliability needed to robustly serve mission critical data, and the cost effectiveness to also deliver an exceptional ROI for Tier III applications,” said Justin Bagby, Director of the StorTrends Division at American Megatrends, Inc. (AMI). “For organizations such as First Option Mortgage, this means exceptional performance with the simplicity and management ease of a common solution.”

  • Historic City Transforms Interdepartmental Business Processes – Reduces Latency, Simplifies File Sharing, Increases Flexibility and Reduces Overall Storage Costs

NORCROSS, GA: StorTrends® today announced that that its high performance storage area network (SAN) storage appliances have been credited with “revolutionizing” the IT infrastructure of the City of Napoleon. Based 35 miles from Toledo, Ohio, and home to almost 9,000 residents, the City of Napoleon implemented the StorTrends SAN solution to help modernize its IT infrastructure while keeping costs down.

“Adding SAN to the City of Napoleon’s IT environment has completely transformed how business is done interdepartmentally,” said Dan Wachtman, MIS Administrator, City of Napoleon. “I would often lose sleep at night worrying about the data within the City of Napoleon’s IT environment. But now, I sleep comfortably knowing our data is fully protected thanks to the StorTrends SANs with their enterprise class snapshots and replication for disaster recovery.”

The IT department for the City of Napoleon is responsible for supporting the 19 departments that make up the city’s government infrastructure. Its combination Windows® and Linux® IT environment includes a myriad of physical servers from various vendors, as well as 25 HP and Citrix Virtual Servers, and Microsoft SQL Server databases.

Prior to deploying the StorTrends solution, the City of Napoleon outsourced most of its larger IT jobs. But as costs and demands continued to escalate, Wachtman, who has been involved in the city’s IT division for 15 years, recognized the need for a more efficient and cost-effective solution.

Some of the benefits that the city has experienced after making the transition to SAN include reduced latency, simplified file sharing, increased flexibility, easier storage deployment, and reduced overall storage costs. The City of Napoleon found that specific features of the StorTrends solution—such as snapshots and disaster recovery (DR)—were particularly helpful.

Wachtman added that the StorTrends support plan, StorAID, helped make the jump to SAN less challenging. “The technical support that we experienced was second to none—when we needed them they were there,” said Wachtman. “After experiencing this high level of service, I would tell anyone that there is no reason to buy any other competitive storage solution.”

“For organizations and institutions, like the City of Napoleon, StorTrends offers a multitude of configurations in all-flash, hybrid flash and spinning disk arrays to meet the requirements and budgets of all IT environments,” said Justin Bagby, Director of the StorTrends Division at American Megatrends, Inc. StorTrends Releases New High-Performance All-Flash Storage Arrays at Industry’s Lowest Price Point

3/17/2015

  • StorTrends 3600i Family Addresses the Needs of the Most Performance-Intensive Applications for Virtualized Environments, VDI and Mixed Workloads at Disruptive Pricing with Models starting at 50 Cents per Gigabyte
  • Premiering StorTrends 3600i Family of AFAs at CeBIT 2015

NORCROSS, GA: StorTrends® today announced details the release of the StorTrends 3600i family of all-flash SAN arrays that have been designed to meet the demanding needs of performance-intensive applications at half the price of any other all-flash storage provider.

Utilizing two different types of solid state drives – one designed for write performance and the other optimized for read performance – the StorTrends 3600i family of all-flash arrays delivers significantly higher performance and extended SSD endurance when compared to competitive flash arrays.

Unlike other flash array vendors, American Megatrends uniquely optimizes its all-flash arrays to suit the specific needs of each environment by using the StorTrends iDATA Analysis Tool, which accurately defines a user’s storage requirements. StorTrends iDATA can assess an organization’s entire IT environment to analyze capacity utilization, IOPS usage, reads vs. writes for volumes, network bandwidth, performance, server statistics and more to classify the amount of “write data” versus “read data” required in their environment. The free StorTrends iDATA tool allows enterprises to accurately plan their next storage investment and removes all the guesswork which could leave the applications under-provisioned or over-provisioned.

The StorTrends 3600i leverages state-of-the-art deduplication and compression, which achieves amazing capacity savings. It is delivered out-of-the-box with an all-inclusive feature set that is comprised of inline deduplication and compression, enlift caching, advanced snapshots, automated data tiering, active/active or active/passive configuration, WAN optimization for unparalleled replication speeds and SSD-based data encryption. The StorTrends 3600i series is available with Write Tier SSD capacities of 200 GB, 400 GB, 800 GB and 2 TB as well as Read Tier SSD capacities of 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB.

StorTrends customer Cross IT Services and Solutions recently deployed a StorTrends 3610i array, and is in the process of migrating the data from five spinning disk SAN/NAS units onto its new all-flash storage solution. The new StorTrends 3610i will now serve as the backbone of its cloud infrastructure, which hosts customer applications and information. “We have long been aware of the advantages of flash over spinning disk, but from a budgetary standpoint it did not previously make sense to deploy on a large scale. However, with the price of flash coming down, it made sense to explore,” said Ryan Kelly, Manager, Technical Services, Cross IT Services and Solutions. “After a careful review, we found that StorTrends offered a full-flash solution that we felt had superior features and functionality over that of other flash competitors -- at a fraction of the cost. In fact, the pricing was actually quite comparable to that of a spinning disk solution." He added, "Another significant selling point for us was that the StorTrends service organization is made up of highly experienced storage professionals, and is backed by parent company, American Megatrends - an organization that has a long lineage of quality and stability. Having that kind of company in your corner, versus many of the startup storage competitors and newcomers to the market, is huge.”

“The demands on application performance are at an all-time high,” said Arun Taneja, Founder, President and Consulting Analyst, The Taneja Group. “From high-transaction databases to virtual desktop implementations, the patience users have for traditional spinning disk speeds are wearing thin. With the high performance and enterprise-class data services offered by the StorTrends’ 3600i family of all-flash arrays, combined with their industry-low acquisition cost, IT organizations no longer need to compromise. High storage performance has never been more attainable.” Taneja concluded, “The benefits of using flash for performance improvement, especially in high-transaction databases, virtual desktop (VDI) and many other applications, are well-known by now. The only issue has been: Can I afford an all-flash configuration? With the StorTrends 3600i family the answer is: Absolutely, yes.”

“Until today, the vast majority of customers have been shy of all-flash storage primarily due to the cost. AMI has broken down this barrier by offering all-flash storage for less than $0.50 per GB. This is due to the highly efficient data deduplication, compression and enlift caching technology that is offered within the StorTrends 3600i series,” said Justin Bagby, Director of the StorTrends Division at American Megatrends. “For organizations that are considering making the move to an all-flash array, we encourage them to download the StorTrends iDATA tool and let it show you the savings and performance requirements your infrastructure needs before investing into an all-flash array. The StorTrends iDATA tool will provide you with an estimated dedupe ratio while also telling you how much active data versus cold data you have within your environment. This will allow you and your team to plan appropriately and avoid being over-or-under sold by a vendor.”

Available now, the StorTrends 3600i all-flash array has an MSRP starting at $24,999. StorTrends solutions are sold with the StorAID Support Program, which includes 24 x 7 technical phone support and next business day onsite replacement. The StorAID Plus Support program adds 4 Hour On-Site and a spare parts kit to the Standard StorAID program. For more information, please visit the StorTrends 3600i overview on the StorTrends website.

The StorTrends 3600i is being showcased this week at CeBIT 2015 in Hannover, Germany in Hall 15, Booth D66. Attendees will be able to see first-hand the new All-Flash Arrays’ unparalled speed and enterprise services. To schedule a demonstration appointment during the show, please email Winfried Prohl, Managing Director of American Megatrends International GMbH.

StorTrends Hybrid and All-Flash Storage Arrays Boost Application Performance for Virtual Server Environments

3/3/2015

  • Customers and Partners Across Range of Industries Realize Rapid Benefits and Value with StorTrends

NORCROSS, GA: StorTrends® today announced details on how customers and partners across virtually every industry, including education, energy, finance, state & local government, healthcare, manufacturing, and retail, have benefitted from the increased application performance achieved using StorTrends hybrid and all-flash storage arrays in high-demand virtual environments. Using StorTrends storage appliances, customers can achieve unprecedented performance, reliability, scalability and cost savings - especially in Virtual Server deployments.

StorTrends is among the leading hybrid and all-flash storage array providers to capitalize on this growth opportunity. With a long standing history of delivering innovative storage solutions that break price/performance barriers, StorTrends has optimized support for a complete range of virtual environments including VMware® ESXi, Microsoft® Hyper-V™, Citrix® Xen™ and Red Hat® RHEV. The result is a suite of storage arrays that will achieve dramatic enterprise performance and reliability at an extremely affordable price point.

Among the keys to StorTrends’ success is the StorTrends iDATA Tool which automatically identifies an environment’s actual storage needs and requirements before a customer makes a purchasing decision. Running quietly in the background of an existing IT environment, after seven days the StorTrends iDATA Tool will report on key metrics including capacity utilization, IOPS usage, reads versus writes for volumes, network bandwidth performance, server statistics and application information. The result is a clear and accurate picture of the storage resources needed for optimum operation - and to ensure organizations select exactly what they need eliminating the need to over-provision costly resources.

“The number one reason most storage installations fail is due to a lack of accurate information regarding the IT environment’s performance requirements,” said Justin Bagby, Director of StorTrends. “With StorTrends iDATA we eliminate the guesswork so that customers can build their storage infrastructure with the insight and knowledge that fuels their success. The StorTrends iDATA tool determines how much active data a customer has within his or her environment. This allows us to spec the approximate amount of SSD or flash for the infrastructure to be successful. This, along with the high value of our StorTrends Hybrid and All-Flash Storage Arrays, continues to deliver impressive performance results for our customers. Why guess at your data storage configuration when you can run the free StorTrends iDATA tool and know?”

“Our guidance to end-users is clear – we advise that they should strongly consider hybrid or all-flash arrays (HFA or AFA) when it comes time for a tech refresh to support business critical environments requiring high performance data capabilities. The HFA or AFA choice should be made after a careful review of internal business and IT requirements, as well as budget. And then, a vendor offering advanced enterprise capabilities together with competitive pricing, such as StorTrends, should be selected,” advised Deni Connor, Founding Analyst, SSG-NOW.

Customers and Partners Report Dramatic Benefits and Value Using StorTrends in Their Virtual Environments

StorTrends customers and partners across multiple industries continue to underscore the value they receive using its family of storage solutions in their virtual environments.

For Prevare Information Technology Services, an authority on outsourced IT and technical services, the value of StorTrends arrays has been proven in their customer implementations again and again. “As I researched potential SAN solutions, I kept coming back to StorTrends from AMI,” said Chris Haight, President of Prevare. “It had the ability to handle capacity needs, the required redundancy in their HA configuration, a very easy and intuitive GUI, certification with VMware and JBODs for future expansion. But what sealed the deal was the price – StorTrends was 25% less than a similar solution from another vendor.”

At McLeod Addictive Disease Center, StorTrends helped to achieve reliable and efficient storage for the abundance of health records stored in the health center’s 30TB virtual server environment. Today, McLeod uses its StorTrends array to run all of their virtual machines. “We originally chose StorTrends after an extensive review of the likely options – such as Dell, EMC and HP. We then met with the team and completed an exhaustive evaluation of the StorTrends’ array – the results blew us away,” said Paul Ogle, a member of the IT team at McLeod Addictive Disease Center. “In addition to StorTrends performing exactly as advertised, the knowledge and support we have received from the support team has far exceeded our expectations.”

Charlotte Radiology also relies on its StorTrends arrays to help the organization retain volumes of critical health data. Charlotte Radiology displaced a premier Tier One SAN vendor with StorTrends and has since seen improved performance and an enhanced feature set for a much more affordable price. “I cannot stress enough how good the customer service is,” said Tony Maynard, Manager of Information Technology, Charlotte Radiology. “The StorTrends team has done nothing but accommodate our needs and bend over backwards for us. Everything has performed as they described and I have never had the feeling of being over-promised or under delivered.”

National Fish & Seafood, a division of PACIFIC ANDES, also entrusts its StorTrends array to protect its Microsoft Hyper-V environment. “When we sat down with our IT services partner to review options, it became clear that StorTrends was the right choice for our business,” said Andrew Marenghi, IT Director, National Fish & Seafood. “The StorTrends array had the specific capabilities we were looking for, the integration with Hyper-V, and a price tag that was, well, much less than we anticipated. A true value.”

University of Maryland’s Department of Transportation Services (DOTS) selected StorTrends as the core of its implemented virtual infrastructure, supporting 17 VMware ESX virtual servers as well as two physical servers running several Microsoft SQL databases, DOTS-specific shared drives and directories and a host of other demanding applications. “StorTrends had literally every single feature I was looking for: tiered storage, data deduplication and archiving, innovative data replication and WAN optimization – everything,” said Tim Robinson, DOTS IT Coordinator and Systems Administrator, University of Maryland Department of Transportation Services. “StorTrends was the perfect fit for my environment. StorTrends met every one of our requirements.”

McLeod Addictive Disease Center Extends Relationship with StorTrends – Adds Additional 3500i and 3400i High Performance Storage

2/10/2015

  • StorTrends 3500i Hybrid Flash Array (HFA) and 3400i Dual Controller SAN to Ensure Optimal Electronic Medical Records (EMR) System Performance, High Availability (HA), Data Protection and Continued Seamless Scalability

NORCROSS, GA: StorTrends® today announced that the McLeod Addictive Disease Center has added a StorTrends 3500i SSD hybrid flash array (HFA) and a StorTrends 3400i dual controller storage area network (SAN) unit to its existing StorTrends deployment, currently serving as the backbone for its Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems. The added StorTrends storage will enable McLeod to achieve seamless expansion of its EMR environment, while ensuring flash-fast performance, as well as the highest levels of data availability and protection.

StorTrends was initially deployed to reinforce McLeod’s EMR system upgrade, as the company transitioned to a virtualized infrastructure. Optimized to support all of the leading virtualization platforms, StorTrends helped McLeod to achieve the dramatic enterprise performance and reliability it required, at an extremely affordable price point. When it came time to expand the environment, for McLeod the decision was simple regarding the storage that should serve as the foundation for the effort.

“We originally chose StorTrends after an extensive review of the likely options – such as Dell, EMC and HP. We then met with the StorTrends team and completed an exhaustive evaluation of the StorTrends’ array – the results blew us away,” said Paul Ogle, a member of the IT team at McLeod Addictive Disease Center. “In addition to StorTrends performing exactly as advertised, the knowledge and support we have received from the StorTrends support team has far exceeded our expectations.”

Today, McLeod continues to use the StorTrends arrays to run all of their virtual machines (VMs). Managing a large EMR environment, let alone one that sits on a virtualized infrastructure, can be a daunting task. However, with StorTrends McLeod enjoys a single point of contact for all of the virtual hosts, simplifying overall management tasks such as automatic VM migration in the event of a virtual host loss or creating new LUNs on virtual machines. And, if a question should arise, StorTrends is available 24x7 with the answer.

“I’ve worked in IT for well over 10 years and I have seldom enjoyed the quality of support I have received from StorTrends,” added Ogle.

“McLeod has moved from a single controller 2400i SAN to the 3500i as their primary storage. With this move, McLeod has increased redundancy with dual controllers, and further enhanced their DR strategy, by backing up to the 3400i SAN. Moreover, by adding the 3500i hybrid flash storage they benefit from the ultimate combination of extreme performance and optimal capacity, at a price comparable to spinning disk – helping them to realize almost immediate and significant ROI,” said Justin Bagby, Director of StorTrends. “However for me, the real news here is that there is absolutely no better seal of approval that can be achieved, then that of a satisfied customer that returns for more.”

Thomas, Judy & Tucker Public Accountants Deploy StorTrends Storage Area Network to Ensure Application Performance and Protection of Financial and Legal Data

1/26/2015

  • North Carolina CPA Firm Leverages StorTrends iDATA to Analyze Physical and Virtualized VMware IT Environment and Support Smart IT Investment

NORCROSS, GA: StorTrends® today announced that Thomas, Judy & Tucker (TJ&T), a leading CPA firm in Raleigh, N.C., has deployed a StorTrends high performance storage area network (SAN) to ensure application performance and the protection of its financial and legal data, while adhering to its strict budgetary requirements. Not wanting to sacrifice speed for cost, the new StorTrends SAN provides TJ&T with the performance of solid-state disk (SSD) caching and SSD tiering, at the cost of spinning disk.

The Certified Public Accounting firm of Thomas, Judy & Tucker was founded by Cliff Thomas, Chris Judy and David Tucker. As a large local CPA firm, TJ&T has the capacity and the capability to offer a myriad of services to its clients. Since 1990, TJ&T has been creating and sustaining partnerships that deliver professional, reliable results. As a full-service accounting firm offering attestation, taxation, outsource accounting and business valuation/litigation support, TJ&T is equipped to offer timely business, financial and tax services to a variety of clients.

As part of their business operations, TJ&T creates a large volume of data. From PDF documents of invoices and checks and volumes of financial documents to tax returns, time and billing data, to the Microsoft® Exchange™ Server for 130 mailboxes, TJ&T found that its storage requirements continued to grow. Even while its existing direct-attached storage (DAS) primary storage system had enough capacity, its operation was becoming increasingly slow, impacting production performance and office productivity. TJ&T needed to find a storage solution that would deliver the high capacity they needed at speeds that would support the demands of their business.

Not wanting to compromise on speed and capacity, TJ&T ruled out many of the solutions it evaluated. Then they discovered StorTrends. StorTrends was able to offer the performance of SSD caching and SSD tiering with the dense capacity of spinning disk drives, all for an extremely reasonable price.

The results have even out-performed expectations. “I’ve looked at various metrics on our VMware® systems as well as on the StorTrends unit itself, and it’s performing better than I thought would be technically possible,” said Drew Green, Director of Information Technology for TJ&T. “I thought it would perform to our needs, but the numbers I’ve seen are better than anticipated.”

“For organizations like TJ&T, StorTrends high-performance storage solutions can deliver the impressive performance and functionality that truly makes them more productive, with the high capacity that will meet their business needs well into the future,” said Justin Bagby, Director of StorTrends. “The StorTrends iDATA™ performance analysis tool was also of high value to TJ&T because it precisely analyzed their environment to assure that the StorTrends solution they implemented exactly matched their needs.”

It was the sum of the StorTrends solution and experience with the StorTrends sales and support staff that further underscored the value TJ&T sees in StorTrends. “The couple of instances that I’ve spoken with support have been phenomenal,” added Green. “This has been the best support experience I have ever had. Everything has exceeded expectations.”

StorTrends Closes 2014 with Strong Momentum as Demand for Hybrid and All Flash Storage Solutions Fuels Record Growth of 500%

1/6/2015

  • Customers across Education, Energy, Finance, Government, Healthcare, Manufacturing and Retail Speak out on the Benefits and Value of StorTrends Flash Storage Arrays

NORCROSS, GA: StorTrends® today announced the close of a record breaking year as sales for its storage appliances grew by 500% with the introduction of the StorTrends Hybrid (HFA) and All Flash Arrays (AFA).

The StorTrends 3500i flash storage system delivers the first and only storage area network (SAN) to combine solid-state drive (SSD) caching and SSD tiering into a single storage appliance. Optimized to support VMware™, Microsoft® Hyper-V™, Citrix™ and RHEV enterprises of all sizes, the StorTrends 3500i is available as a hybrid or full flash array, and delivers dramatic enterprise performance and reliability at an extremely affordable price point.

“The flash-based storage market, which includes both AFAs and HFAs, is on fire. In the first half of 2014, the combined markets grew at noticeably higher rates than what IDC had forecast it to grow with previous projections. Individually, each market segment also outgrew our 2013 forecast projections,” said Eric Burgener, Research Director, Storage, IDC. “End users are learning that flash storage provides improved performance, higher reliability, longer endurance and compelling TCO when deployed at scale, as well as enterprise-class data services. Clearly, if you are an end user, you should be considering flash-based arrays when the time has come to retire your existing enterprise storage platforms.”

StorTrends Key Milestones:

  • Premieres StorTrends 3500i™ SSD Array – StorTrends 3500i SSD Array offers an all-inclusive set of features including SSD Caching, SSD Tiering, Automatically Tiered Volumes (ATV), Automated Data Tiering, and replication with WAN optimization. These features, together with the unique combination of SSD and HDD technology in a slim 3U configuration, deliver up to 64TB of storage capacity within the 3U and expansion capacity of up to 256TB. The SAN storage solution features hot-swappable dual controllers with Active/Active or Active/Passive high availability and redundant, hot-swappable power supply units.
  • Introduces StorTrends iDATA™ IT Infrastructure Assessment Tool – This free intelligent data analysis tracking application (iDATA) provides a comprehensive and accurate assessment of IT infrastructure statistics such as performance, capacity and throughput requirements, in order to find and assess pain points, before they become disruptive, as well as to enable IT professionals to proactively and accurately plan for future IT investment/deployment.
  • Launches StorTrends PROFIT Program – This program offers one of the highest protected margins in the industry to allow channel partners to capitalize on the exploding demand for cost-effective hybrid and/or full flash storage solutions.

Industry Lab Validations Speak to Power of StorTrends 3500i Storage Array:

Taneja Group Technology Validation – “We observed in our hands-on Technology Validation of the StorTrends 3500i array that StorTrends has crafted SSD into a mature, field-proven, and well-architected storage system. With a comprehensive set of storage features and an intriguingly flexible ability to integrate SSDs with the StorTrends cache and tiering architecture, the 3500i showed us that it is ready to deliver superb performance, extreme versatility, and serious value for mid-range storage customers,” said Taneja Group founder, Arun Taneja when asked about the report. “The NetNet is there is no need to look for alternatives to make solid state more affordable and practical for the mainstream – with the AMI StorTrends 3500i, it is clearly here.”

StorTrends 3500i Validated by StorageReview Enterprise Lab – During independent testing the StorTrends 3500i storage array was deemed a “powerful and easy to deploy hybrid storage platform built for high performance and maximum capacity” – demonstrating top-of-the-class performance in benchmark conducted against well-known Tier 1 storage vendors. “The AMI StorTrends 3500i provides businesses with a powerful and easy to deploy 3U hybrid storage platform built for high performance and maximum capacity. It didn't take long for the StorTrends 3500i to demonstrate its top-class performance during our benchmarking. In the first application test, which measured performance with VMmark, the StorTrends 3500i posted excellent results. The StorTrends 3500i cluster was at or near the top of the pack, slipping ever so slightly at the 10th tile. In the 15k and 30k virtual-user SQL Server benchmark, the 3500i was easily the best of the bunch especially when measuring the average latency. The 3500i recorded only 41ms latency during 30k virtual users benchmark where the second place system posted 133ms; a significant gap in responsiveness. The StorTrends 3500i is able to achieve all of these impressive numbers for a variety of reasons, one of the biggest being how they handle flash. First off, the array offers both caching (a copy of the hot data on SSDs) and tiering (a permanent location of hot data on SSDs), which is relatively rare among the hybrid storage array vendors. Most provide one or the other, which certainly adds to top-line performance, but as we see here, there can be a benefit to using both. AMI is also using higher capacity SSDs for tiering, at 4x800GB in RAID10, 1.6TB usable in a 16-bay system is well above what many competitive systems offer. The drives are also modern, many of the large storage vendors are using SSD technology that's very stable but a few years older. The only thing really working against the 3500i is lack of awareness in a crowded market; that likely won't last long though as the 3500i really shines.”

StorTrends iDATA Named “Invaluable” Tool by SSG-NOW – StorTrends iDATA accurately assesses IT infrastructure in order to find and eliminate pain points, avoid business disruption and make informed storage investment decisions.

Customers Speak Out on Value of StorTrends Flash Storage Appliances:

“We needed something that was going to perform at the level our SQL servers needed. The specification certainly seemed to be there and pricewise StorTrends compared favorably against other devices in its same class. We found that metrics such as IOPS, throughput, capacity and replication - as well as the flexibility of being able to connect to multiple devices of StorTrends products were higher than our current solution and in the range that we wanted to be.”
RTI - Phil Blakely, Network and Systems Administrator

“I cannot stress enough how good the customer service is. The StorTrends team has done nothing but accommodate our needs and bend over backwards for us. Everything has performed as they described and I have never had the feeling of being over-promised or under-delivered.”
Charlotte Radiology – Tony Maynard, Manager of Information Technology

“The StorTrends array had the specific capabilities we were looking for, the integration with Hyper-V and a price tag that was much less than we anticipated.”
National Fish and Seafood - Andrew Marenghi, IT Director

“When I started here there were already two StorTrends appliances that had been here for about four to five years. They ran flawlessly, untouched for about two more years. I didn’t even have to reboot the boxes. I really paid very little attention to them. So, when it was time to add storage for our video project – I was already looking in StorTrends’ direction.”
University of Western Ontario - Clint Bourdeau, Network Systems Specialist

“Indeed, 2014 was a stellar year for StorTrends. Driven by our number one asset – our people - combined with the industry’s top storage solution – StorTrends - and relationships with the channel’s superstars as the icing-on-top, we grew our customer base with companies large and small, across virtually every industry vertical, around the world,” said Justin Bagby, Director of StorTrends. “We look forward to this year, as we continue to hone our product roadmap in order to innovate and deliver the features our customers require to accelerate application performance, protect and ensure data availability, and decrease overall cost and complexity.”

The StorTrends ManageTrends GUI is absolutely the best GUI I've seen. It's ridiculously easy to use. That and StorTrends highly affordable pricing made it a compelling product for our Tier II and III needs. The StorTrends solutions at First Option have been a very good investment. The SANs do exactly as promised. For the money and ease of use, StorTrends is a real value.
